Abyssinians, also affectionately known as Abys, are one of the oldest natural breeds of domestic cat. Known as the “Mini Cougar” of cat breeds, they have a wild look with a ticked coat and dramatic tabby markings on the face. They are gorgeous and very elegant creatures resembling the ancient Egyptian depictions of cats. They are one of the most intelligent of cat breeds and are inquisitive, interactive, affectionate, and very loyal yet friendly with visitors. They make wonderful companions!
The distinguishing features of the Abyssinian are the large ears, almond shaped eyes, and the ticked coat (alternating bands of colour). Ruddy is the most common colour. There is also Red (Sorrel, Cinnamon), as well as Blue and Fawn, which are the dilute colours of the Ruddy and Red respectively. Other colours including Silver are being developed in Europe. |
